writer and painter Elena Poniatowska has won on Monday the Biblioteca Breve Prize, worth 30,000 euros, with Leonora's novel, inspired by the life the writer and surrealist painter Leonora Carrington, his turbulent love affair with Max Ernst, and his life adventure from the asylum where she was admitted to its way to New York and Mexico.
The novel was published on 22 February and has been chosen by a jury composed of José Manuel Cabellero Bonald, Pere Gimferrer, Rosa Montero, Elena Ramírez and Darío Villanueva, who have highlighted the "verbal resources master" of the writer to capture in a single woman all the dreams and nightmares of the twentieth century.
